Walsh’s replacement, Brian Young, was then hired by Roth in 2002 for his national tour with Sammy Hagar.

Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony has also performed sets with Atomic Punks on three occasions. In 1997 in Pasadena, California, he said, I feel like I am back in 1982 performing with the old band! He joined them again at the House of Blues in Anaheim, California on January 31, 2003, playing nine songs: Runnin' With The Devil, Hot For Teacher, Somebody Get Me A Doctor, Light Up The Sky, You Really Got Me, Panama, Bottoms Up!, Mean Street, and On Fire.

The band’s live approach is built around the sound and stage feel of vintage Van Halen rather than a loose interpretation. Fans have pointed to Brian Young’s close recreation of David Lee Roth’s live persona, including the costumes, scream, and vocal delivery associated with that era. Current guitarist Lance Turner covers Eddie Van Halen’s classic guitar parts and live style, while original members Joe Lester on bass and Scott Patterson on drums anchor the rhythm section. Joe and Lance also handle the backing vocals heard on the early Van Halen material.
