The inspiration has a personal connection for bandleader and musical director Paul Garrett. While performing at the Adam’s Mark Hotel in Philadelphia, Paul had an unforgettable encounter when Doc Kupka, legendary baritone saxophonist of Tower of Power, sat in with his band. Tower of Power was touring with Huey Lewis & The News at the time, giving Paul the opportunity to meet members of the rhythm and horn sections that night. Making it even more memorable, it happened to be Paul’s birthday—an experience he has never forgotten.

That connection helped inspire Back In Time: not a scaled-down tribute, but a 10-piece band featuring a powerhouse five-piece horn section, recreating the big, horn-driven sound of the era when Huey Lewis & The News toured with the legendary Tower of Power horns.
