In the late 90s, Hunter played and performed for almost three years with REO founding member and guitarist Gary Richrath. That connection led him to build a tribute centered on REO's music and on Richrath's contribution to the band's sound and music history.

After working in tribute bands since 2002, Hunter set out to assemble players who loved REO's catalog and could handle the parts that define it. The focus was on the signature vocal harmonies and musical style that made REO's songs recognizable to fans.

The lineup came together with two young multi-talented musicians and two seasoned players, forming Ridin' The Storm Out. The band takes its name from REO's first hit from the mid 70s, the signature song that closes their shows.
