About Us
Band story
Founded in 1987, The Legends are a San Diego eight-piece Motown and Doo-Wop revue performing 1950s-70s Rock 'n' Roll with wigs, costumes, and choreography. Show options range from a 30-minute revue to a full evening of dancing.
Founded by Howard Blank in 1987, The Legends are a San Diego-based Motown and Doo-Wop revue with more than 20 years in the local music scene. Over the years, Howard has brought several area musicians into the group, including members of Sha Na Na and The Syndicate of Sound.
The band currently performs as an eight-piece show band featuring drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, and sax. Their show can be tailored from a full evening of dancing to a 30-minute revue, giving buyers options for different event formats.
The Legends focus on early 1950s through 1970s Rock 'n' Roll, with tributes to artists including Tina Turner, Dion, The Supremes, Frank Sinatra, and The Marcels. The presentation includes period-styled sounds, wigs, costumes, and choreography.
Members of The Legends have performed at Sea World, La Costa Resort, Viejas, Pala, Barona, several other Southern California casinos, country clubs, resorts, concert series, and the 65th Annual Mother Goose Parade.
Over the years, The Legends have shared the stage with The Coasters, The Drifters, The Shirelles, and Martha Reeves & the Vandellas. They also appeared in a fundraiser for Brain Injured Veterans with Johnny Tillotson, Tommy Mara, Lou Christie, Ken Brady, Little Anthony, Dave Sumerville, Jocko from Sha Na Na, Sonny Turner, Lynn Anderson, Jimmy Stephens, and Nancy Sinatra, and showcased at the San Diego Convention Center through Dick Clark Productions. The group was also part of Legends of Rock 'n' Roll at the Concord Pavilion featuring Wolfman Jack and Bobby Freeman.
The lineup includes San Diego singers and musicians, including an original member of The Outsiders, known for Time Won't Let Me from 1966, listed in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.
